2026 Captain of Industry Recipient

The NY/NJ Foreign Freight Forwarders & Brokers Association, Inc. is pleased to honor Jeanette Gioia with its “Captain of Industry” Award for 2026.  This award is bestowed on an individual who has steadily and generously given their knowledge, time and commitment to the Association.

With decades of high-ranking leadership positions in all aspects of transportation with freight forwarders and customs brokerage, Jeanette has helped the industry and NYNJFF&BA membership navigate the challenges of the rapidly changing global supply chain and regulatory environment.

Jeanette has long served the NY NJ Freight Forwarders & Brokers Association in several roles, Vice President of Exports and served 2 consecutive terms as President and currently as Chair.   Her extensive operational knowledge and strategic thinking have proven to be a great resource for the NYNJFF&BA.

In addition, Ms. Gioia represents NYNJFFF&BA on the Council on Port Performance under the leadership of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and The Shipping Association of New York and New Jersey.  She has also been an active participant in the National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America (NCBFAA), serving on its Transportation Committee and NVOCC Sub-Committee.  Her advocacy and expertise have helped shape discussions on transportation policy, port performance, and supply chain efficiency at both the regional and national levels.

Jeanette is currently President of both Serra International, a freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and 3PL company and Serra Shipping, its’ NVO affiliate.  She holds a BA from Manhattanville College and a MIA from Columbia University.  Before joining Serra in 1984, Jeanette worked as an international economist with the foreign exchange advisory service of Brown Brothers Harriman & Co; the international lending division of Mellon Bank; the international finance group of Kidder Peabody & Co.; and with the private consulting company Nakagama & Wallace. She has written and been a guest speaker on international economic and foreign exchange issues.

Her achievements and dedication to the Association deserve recognition!
